The most famous Zionist, who wasn’t a Zionist. Nor a communist. Nor Hitler, or Stalin. An overwhelming amount of goodness. He radiated an overwhelming amount of goodness, for my corrupt humanity. I don’t consider Him a saint; I don’t like falsifying history and making people into ideals. His story needs no lies. But He didn’t want glowing praise.
He considered himself a Zionist in the old days, in the chronicles of Płońsk. Have you ever wondered, Dear Readers, what makes a Zionist? The lack of air in one’s own country, which, nevertheless, one can never call their country. Until the time comes. One day, David Grün stops being David. But did he, really? No, one couldn’t be more wrong. To the end of his life, he remains primarily David, not Ben Gurion. Not a politician, not a Prime Minister, not the Father of Israel. Above all, he wanted to be known as a Jew, as David.
